Mohamed Riaz Ismail was a man of the people, and more importantly, for the people. Born in December 1942, the oldest son in a family of nine, he attended the prestigious Mahinda College in Galle. He unhesitatingly sacrificed his formal higher education, having hailed from a privileged family in the bustling city of Galle, to focus on his lifelong cause -- providing education, and thus opportunity for upliftment, to underprivileged children.

Scholarship Fund
The Riaz Ismail Scholarship Fund is a tribute in memoriam to the wonderful human who was Mohamed Riaz Ismail by his family, who, along with everyone who knew him, grieve for his loss from this earthly realm. The Riaz Ismail Scholarship Fund provides scholarships in the form of financial assistance to qualified, underprivileged school-going students to help them achieve their educational goals. The scholarship foundation also mentors and counsels the students to ensure they allrounded and grow into adulthood with sound values. Further, it offers career counselling and guides them towards employment opportunities, ensuring they are set on their chosen path to achievement.
The Riaz Ismail Scholarship Fund is managed by an executive committee consisting of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and six other committee members
